Thought I better update this as have now done the job !!
Not as bad as was first thought... no need to drop the front diff or lift engine up off its mounts, just remove the steering arm running across the front axle and this gives enough room to get the sump dropped out.
Start to finish the job took less than 4 hours but this included drilling out and re-threading one of the engine undertray bolts !!
