ABS and simply strong brakes are two very different things though.

A properly engineered ABS system is a massive safety feature, that almost no driver will match in emergency conditions on the road with normal brakes ( except ice etc...that just fucks them up )

ABS isnt about just stopping in a straight line on a clear dry road as and when you're ready. It's for those oh shit moments where you need to stop fast and steer around any objects in your path. And modern systems do that superbly.

Retrofitting from another vehicle may be an option, but you could never expect the system to work the same as it was in the original application, which was designed, tested and programmed specifically for that vehicle. And it'd be a ton of work to retrofit I'd imagine.
