I believe there was an efr turbo that was ran higher than the recommended 116000 rpm and sudsequently failed not long after mapping which was a 1000 hp turbo running at 978 hp !
I guess it depends how far you are going to push it, my own car is at 101000 rpm at 2.2 bar of boost but it's on an enormous turbine housing which I believe will help keep the speed abit lower as the hotside is flowing more freely at the loss of some response

But if the turbo is rated at 550 hp and your trying to get close to 550 I think you will need the sensor
