Default So you think your car is clean

My Son Wesley arrived at our premises last Saturday asking to use a low profile jack so he could remove his wheels to clean them properly, Wesley grew up watching me detail cars and he is very good at keeping his cars looking squeaky clean and it was no surprise to me that he would want to remove the wheels to clean them, so once he had dragged the jack out and raised the car and removed the wheel nuts his first problem was that the wheels would not come off, this of course is due to the corrosion build up between the hub and wheel, I am sure you have all encountered the same problem, this is a massive problem for our Wez as he always looks like he has fell out of Hugo Bosses window, so looking at me {who never looks like I have fell out of any shop window} as if to say. "get the wheel of for us then" I opened my tool box and handed him a lead filled rubber mallet, looking at me like I was from another planet, I said "now you will find out why I get dirty while detailing cars".
He spent a few seconds gazing at the mallet, expecting the mallet to jump out of his hand and knock the wheels off for him, now realizing this was not going to happen he asked for the floor board and got down and knocked the wheel off, laying the wheels on rubber wheel mats, now he could get started, using wheel cleaners, metal remover and soapy water the wheel was cleaned nicely and ready for refitting but first he did the right thing, without any prompting, started scrubbing the under arch plastics using an all purpose cleaner {apc}{autosmart G101} and stiff brushes, he cleaned all the suspension and paint work that was visible, now looking lovely he was ready to re fitt the wheel, before he did this I decided to chip in and clean the hub centre using a wire brush, then applying a light coating of copper grease.
The wheel was fitted and as always tightened using the Torque wrench, he then carried on to do the same on all the remaining wheels and wheel arches.
Looking chuffed to bits with the wheels and undercarriage, he had done a great job, I asked "are you going to do the rest of the car" "I washed it yesterday" he replied, "So you think your car is clean then" I asked, "mint" was his reply, I begged to differ.
With a smug look on my face, I picked up a bottle of Iron X and started spraying it all over the car, "whats that" again looking at me like I was an alien, "wait a minute and you will see".
At the point that the iron X started to work, I wish I had taken a picture if his face, I am sure he thought I was going to damage his pride and joy, once I had explained that it was removing the brake dust particles that had bonded to the paint the look of horror turned into a look of amazement at the same time not believing that a car that he looks after so well could possibly have this much bonded contamination all over it.
We let the iron X do its think for ten minutes, then rinsed the car off, we let most of the water drain off then reapplied a second coat of ironX just to make sure that we had removed as much as possible, while the second coat was working away, I grabbed a bottle of tar remover and a micro fiber cloth and walked around the car spraying and wiping any tar spots that I could find of the car.
Once the iron X had found and removed the metallic particles, the car was rinsed again, this time followed by its first coat of snow foam, you will see in one of the pictures that this re energized some of the ironX residue, once this had been left to dwell, it was rinsed off and a second coat of snow foam was applied and left to dwell while Wez filled the grit guarded buckets up ready for its wash with PH neutral shampoo, by now Wez was amazed at the difference whiteness of his car and admitted that he never understood what our car spa day consisted of, although if this car was a clients car it would now be clay barred as well after these stages where completed but as he turned up 2 hours late {probably checking out his wardrobe for something a little less flash to wear to the unit lol} we did not have time to do the full spa day and he would now have to go home and apply his sealant before the atmosphere had time to attack the paint again.
Enjoy these few pictures, I would be happy to answer any questions concerning the work involved or the products.
