If welding steel dc only should be fine, ac is needed for aluminium, think you also need thoriated tungsten tip iirc.
back in the day had to pass tig and ally tig exams, it wasn’t that hard to pick up if you have a steady hand.
main thing with ally is keep the heat to a minimum or else the pool starts running away from you and bead gets bigger and bigger.
