Default Clunking noise when clutch is brought up, what could this be ?

Noticed this noise a week after buying the car. When the clutch is brought up a clunk noise can be heard, cannot hear it in gears 4 and 5 but can in gears 1-3.

Had car 18 months now and it goes into each gear absolutely superb without hesitation. the clunking noise spoils the smooth running of the transmission.

I replaced the gearbox oil last year , used semi synthetic, wondering if It would have been best using fully synthetic ?

A while ago we drained a bit of gearbox oil on some cardboard and saw some tiny pieces of metallic shavings, didn't notice it when I replaced the gearbox oil months later.
when it was plugged in once on diagnostic something showed a code with the syncromesh in the gearbox or something, not sure if it was an old code that had not been cleared ?

does anyone have any idea of what this noise may be ? any help much appreciated.

cheers
