Most of the major European brands these days share many major components. The 1.6 HDi diesel in my daughters Pug is the same as in the Citroen, Fiat and Ford 1.6's.

The Ford Probe was mostly Mazda. Saab was Vauxhall on later models, even the MG/Rover 1.8D was a BMW engine.

Maybe those surveys should reflect the type of driver as well as hi-end 'business cars' are going to have a different life to an average KIA Ceed or Hyundai i20.
