Every independent I've worked in if u can't find the problem within an hour then we get the mobile electrician in who finds it in a fraction of the time and we put our cost on top of what he charges so we still make money. The future of this trade really is electrical and diagnostics so u are doing the right thing mate for sure. Good luck in whatever u get to do mate
yeah they are willing to pay for it all just the gaffer here is pretty snowed under to spend the time researching these things so has told me to find it and he'll pay for it.
at present we go the route of if we can't sort it we get a sparky in but being a fleet operator everything is in house so we don't have anyone to pass the cost on to, if he comes out and charges us £150 to sort something out it starts to get pretty expensive over 150 vans, 50 trucks, 100+ cars.
one of the key things that has brought this about too is with every new commercial vehicle we buy we need beacons and dash cams fittings, as much as i've been picking up permanent, switched and earth on cars literally since i was a child, the management here insist on a person with a relevant qualification carrying out the work.
