Manufacturing is so heavily automated now compared to a generation ago. If these factories were to return to England they would employee a small fraction of the workers compared to before they moved to Asia. They would be looking for college or university graduates to employee, not your average school leaver. The dream of a decent wage, benefits and secure job without education is gone.

Just go into Tescos/Sainsburys/ASDA and see how many scan-as-you shop and self-scan tills there are now compared to 5 years ago. How many fewer employees do you think they have due to this technology?

People need to understand this dream and idea that politicians promise of bringing british manufacturing back to England to solve unemployement and the welfare state will never. This is all part of the technological revolution.
