It could cause all manner of faults, you just couldnt say anything specific.

And it could cause an even bigger fault that if the engine is not earthed correctly...when you try and start the car and the starter needs a substantial earth path in order to function....it can try and pull it from anywhere else and cause all sorts of damage.
