Thanks for that, that's brilliant! At least I now know what I have got and the reason for the Rev limit. Does it effect the performance of the engine at all? (i.e. are the maps different?). I'm thinking that if all I need to do is send a wire or two to earth I may as well stick with it.

The photo is old, I haven't got an up to date one on my laptop. The MAF sensor is fitted.

There is currently an Ecu, key, Transponder kit on eBay from a '99 2.0ltr Mondeo. It doesn't state what transmission it is for but has the code BASH. Do you know if this would be suitable?
