Hi. I know it's been quite a few years since your original post but yours has been the only reletive answer I've found and I've been looking for a long time...
Anyway...
If you still remember, can you give more details as to what and how you fixed yours please.
I have got the shield off from around the solenoid and that has 2 black wires attached to the side.
My van won't even turn over unless I short the starter across the terminals but no matter what I've tried it just won't fire up. It does have fuel getting through.
