Default Cabriolet roof tension?

Hi anyone on here familiar with the mk4 cabriolet roof?
Mine has never close before properly since I bought it and now I have a new carpet fitted I want to get it fixed instead of a putting a strip of duct tape across the top of the windscreen (the shame!!)
Basically the roof doesn't quite meet the top of the windscreen when closed on the passenger side (about 2-3mm shorter than the other side) causing it to leak in when it's raining heavy. I have tried to adjust the hook on the handle to the limit and tried the old method of heating the vinyl up and forcing the roof from the rear and middle support bar.
Now I have read the roof has a tension wire running around the back which can be adjusted by a nut and bolt behind the rear speaker pods, if I loosen this on the passenger side will it allow my roof to go forward a bit and close properly?
