The chip has a notch. If you look at the pics as you say, you can clearly see a notch. In your 1st pic in post #6 the notch is the small cutout at the bottom of the chip. Under the chip notch the extender board has 3 small notches too. It is clearly evident from the pics. That is what the notch is.

Anyway to avoid confusion, place the chip in the exact same orientation as the chip that is already installed in the ECU, to the left of the one you're installing. If you look at that chip it has the notch at the top of the chip and it has the little circle beside pin 1 like my earlier post.

Let us know how you get on but it really is as straightforward as that.
