Smile Imrc issue

anybody who ever owned an ST170 will more than likely have come across this 1508 issue.. faulty imrc.. mine occurred just 5 weeks ago, i already had carried out some mods as this is a high days and track car so my engine bay is less cluttered than stock, and i had repositioned the IMRC box to above the left engine mount.. easy to remove and its being repaired at present faulty transistor inside the box.. so its off the car.. i'm a cycle guy as well as a gear head so i thought to use an old bike downtube gear lever with cable and wire [Shimano Positron] to pull the manifold lever forward where it would be after start up on any st170 .. this i did, its perhaps 7/8 of the full travel forward and car revs better to the cut out than before and gets to illegal mph with more torque faster than ever.. i know that this system is to my mind designed the wrong way around , i would have it set to pull after 5k to get to the short runners.. not the way it is in Fords std vehicles.. has anyone else played around with these settings..i don't know if i will refit it after its fixed..
