Vivaro 2.0 cdti 57 reg crank sensor ?
Need help pin pointing a problem, had my van since June drove great, 2 months ago just cut out , garage found some wires severed after a previous owner had new clutch or other work done and wires had been left hanging, they repaired it and it has run ok since but on acceleration it blows smoke and fuel consumption has gone up, anyway the other day in stop start traffic , a stop light came on and flashed then an engine stop light blinked on , the after a few secs went off , these happened a few times but van was still running, when traffic started to flow it drove fine 10 mins after initial lights flashing , it happened again and engine cut out, I started it straight away and drove again, same again two more times , called RAC their diagnostic said fault code crank sensor and 3 fuel related errors, rail , pressure and temp, it was left cold for 5 hrs and I drove home 35 miles, it then did same again 2 mile from home at low speed , but again started first time and got another 8 miles to garage with no probs took it to the garage that fixed it, they said their computer can not find same codes, so not sure , then they said that they found same codes with one computer but not with another, I don't think they are want to start looking for a problem they might not find as it's usually electronically related, and they are an m.o.t garage, A guy who has same van as me said it sounds similar to a prob he had, he changed crank sensor and hey presto it was fine. These faults I have are intermittent so it seems electrical , could this be an early warning of crank sensor failure, can anyone advise. I have got a crank sensor so may fit it anyway.
