They were ordered for the police, but as sometimes happen, the order was cancelled. Some had or would make it into service, some didn't.

They were offered to the public or taken on as Ford Company Cars, and this is where things get a little strange.

When these cars were built it was supposedly without the front seats. So they had fronts seats fitted depending on the size of the wallet doing the buying.

Police and the none wealthy had standard cloth seats. Flush people had Mk2 Ghia leather fronts, people who were sensible had the ST200 Recaros put in. I have also seen one with Ghia X Mk3 Front Seats!!

There is however an anomaly with this theory. My car had seats from the factory as the VIN label was on the runners! Well that's an assumption on my part but does hold true on the whole.

Anyway, the white cars can have an unusual combination of seatage!!

As for the production, they did I suppose in relative terms, come towards the end of production. The only UK cars after the white ones were the LE's and 4 Blue hatchbacks!!

European cars, all variants, were a plenty though.

There are W, X, Y and 51 plated White 200s.
