Possibly, but if anything the thermostat is opening at too low a temperature so at least you're not going to overheat.

I changed the thermostat on mine last year as it was running a bit low. I once noticed that if I lifted off on the motorway going quite quick, the temp would drop dramatically due so much air going through the rad, before the thermostat caught up after a few seconds.
