pug 207 running badly after cambelt
Apologies for asking about such a terrible car, but I'm looking for some advice re: a 56 plate 1.4 petrol 207.
Last week my partner was out in the car when it started when a loud noise appeared, she was along way from home and immediately took it to the nearest garage where they diagnosed it as being the cambelt tensioner that was failing.
They advised not driving any further to prevent any damage so she booked it in to have the cambelt and tensioner replaced, as part of this work they have also replaced the water pump.
The car was delivered back to us and immediately I noticed the car was running roughly, on start up the idle was immediately at 1500rpm and it rose to 1700rpm by itself in the course of about 30 seconds. Pops and crackles could be heard from the exhaust and although the revs were not fluctuating up and down, it seemed to be running badly.
I rejected the car and they took it back, they then claimed it was a VVT issue and they had cleared a fault code and taken it for a 12 mile test drive.
When it was returned again it was exactly the same so they took it back again, this time they claimed they needed a peugeot specialist to reset the ecu properly and after a couple more days rang to say they had had it sorted and also found a loose belt?
Today it was returned for a third time and it seemed to be idling alot better (around 900rpm) but there still seemed to be some slight rough running at idle. I said I would see how it went and turned off the car. This evening I decided to give it a run out and on starting the car, the rough running seemed a little worse and the rpm's were closer to 1000, then a depollution warning popped up along with the engine warning light.
Can anyone shed any light on this, does the garages course of action seem to make sense or have they just lowered the idle rpm somehow and not fixed whatever the issue is. Could anything they have done have caused this issue?
