I know it's probably been asked a thousand times, but what are people's recommended oils for yb engines?
I've finally got our project up and running, and since the engine hadn't run in a long time, we drained out the old oil, and replaced with some cheapy 10w40, ran the engine for 15 to 20 minutes till it was warm and the oil coolers had circulated for a while, then drained again and replaced with some more of the same. however there is a slight chattering noise from the distributor pulley area, which mainly occurs around 1500 rpm and only within the first couple of minutes after starting up from cold, oil pressure looks OK (45psi cold, taken at the turbo oil feed, dropping to around 35psi after warming up a little). Would a thicker oil be likely to quieten it down a little? I've slackened off the timing belt and can only feel a millimeter or so of in and out play on the pulley, and no up/down or side to side play at all, also, the timing belt runs out by a couple of mm on the same pulley, is this fairly normal or cause for concern?
