OK, found temp sensor under the coil cover between the cams at front of head.

If I disconnect temp sensor then the gauge behaves, ie. doesn't shoot straight to the top when I turn on the ignition.

Question: Does this imply it is a temp sensor problem, rather than a wiring issue?

Question 2: Is it possible to change the temp sensor without removing the cam covers? If so, how?? It's a bit dark down there and I can't see exactly how it is fitted!!
