How about a Mazda 3 MPs mate 260 bhp out the box.
It's a 2.3 turbo and they go pretty well in standard form.
Mk1 looks nice bit of a sleeper but the mk2 is a bit more refined with a lot of toys as standard.
for less than 1k you can be running about 320bhp.
They are a cracking car mate, I sold my my very tidy low milage mk1 frs to buy one and haven't regretted it once yet.
Don't get me wrong I loved my focus but got to the point I didn't want to take it out and leave it anywhere which is just silly plus they are all getting on a fair bit now and parts prices are just silly.
Plenty of parts to be had for the MPs and fairly reasonable if imported from America as they are very well loved over there.
The only major thing with the mk1 MPs is timing chain rattling which requires updated chain and tentioners to be fitted but most mk1 should have had this done.
I paid 9.5k for my mk2 with 28k miles on it but mk1 can be had for around 5-6k now.
They seem too be holding there money now everyone realises how good they are.
