It is probably the EDC module that sits on top of the fuel pump that is fried.

Not a nice thing to happen but it does. Options are, new pump at about £700+ fitting or a repaired EDC module for £300+ fitting.

Search online about the EDC module, it effects loads of cars from that era with Bosch VE injection pumps, not just Fords.
