There's only one mechanic that can read and clear the codes for you? Nobody else?
It's not exactly customer friendly work he has done. I would think that the EML would have been noticed after starting the engine.
I would stay away from this "garage" in the future.

Anybody with either a Ford specific scanner or a generic EOBD/OBD2 scanner can read and clear the codes for you.
