Default Fuel filter Krud!!!!

Hi. I religiously change my fuel filter on my 04 TDCI once a year. I always use a Delphi HDF924 (and not the 924E). I always like to open up the old filter just to make sure there's nothing too untoward going on. But on this one I took out today I was very surprised. It was full of what looked like lime scale. White ish grainy waxy looking stuff. Obviously on the canister wall in the base. I wonder if anyone can tell me what it is. If it's an issue. I drain the filter into a clean jar from the release tap to check on water build up. There was almost none. Cheers for any help. I'll try to get a photo or 2 on.
