Default Timing Belt

Hi all.

Could I ask, in which direction is the thread for the Crank pulley/Under pulley.
Im currently changing a timing belt after it got stripped of a few teeth. I have the crank at TDC and the crank locking pin inserted and the crank turnd up against it. I know there torqued fairly tight. So do I turn the crank pulley nut clockwise againt the lockin pin (and risk bending it inside the engine) or do I turn anticlockwise. In which case the crank turns freely.. The old timing belt was cut free after setting TDC and the cams line up fairly close on the back where you slide the locking strap.. How can I lock the crank up if i need to turn it anticlockwise. it will freely rotates about a Qtr Anticlockwise before it stops but without the belt the Cams remain stationery. So is it pressing againt a valve or is the crank hittting the crank locking pin inside (just from the other direction) I just want to be sure and not force her.

Many thanks in Advance

Allso as the timing has gone out due to the belt loosing teeth. will i need to set the variable valve timing. or do i just set the crank againt the pin TDC and have the strap in both cams at the rear of the engine. Will I have to remove "Slop" from the VVT ???
