Can anyone check if a car is Cat D recorded or not?

Looking to buy a car off someone I know who has had a bit of a prang. Only needs a new bonnet, headlight, wing and a bit of paintwork. When I asked him if it was Cat D registered or not he wasn't sure.

Is anyone able to check or know how to check?
