The rods are M12 and the 2 bolts are M14.
What is very important is that the 2 half moon parts are perfectly clampng the whole outer surface of the gear . So you are not just pulling on the back side of the gear but the whole thing is 1 solid block.
This way it won't chip the teeth from the gear because of lateral force.
Applying heat is also crucial.
And don't wurry with a little DIY torch you will never ever reach the critical temperature when the structure of iron start to change. ( > 400°C )
You are on to a winner with what you have made as even gearbox specialists say you cant remove 5th gear without breaking it, well done.
