Doesnt say you need to compress them on the instructions.. must say when i ajust mine without compressing them i cant tell the diffrence.
presumably they just spin round and round if you turn them whilst extended? Certainly with mine they have to be compressed so the adjuster inside engages, and they only turn the limited adjustment amount then. You will know when you've adjusted them hard!!

they are all but impossible to extend by hand on the hardest setting..
Maybe worth mentioning that the majority of the adjustment is on rebound (extending direction) only, the bump setting (compression) varies very little.
