From my reading it seems that some people have run 400hp+ with no oil pump failure, but more have had oil pump failure!?
Up to 400bhp and a moderate rev limit I'd be happy on a standard oil pump, though Black Tops seems to cope better. Anything over 400bhp is a ticking time bomb, just depends how lucky you are before a catastrophic failure occurs and wipes out the engine IMO!

I've known cars last awhile at 400+bhp but only Black Tops and it will always be on your mind. Failures happen regularly and billet gears do nothing to help it.

Your dry sump alternative is the single stage external oil pump kit by OPI. By far the best thing on the market and if I was doing one agin I wouldn't think twice about ordering one.
