Seems to be pot luck on the oil pumps, as you've said there's some that have run without issues, iirc it's harmonics that do the deed in the end, you can get uprated gears but it's not uncommon uncommon for those to fail too.
Yes, I'm taking my chances I think for a bit unless an 'affordable dry sump ' option arrives!!
If I get too scared I will go down that route. Likewise if the oil pump fails and I save the engine, I will go dry sump!!
