I found on the last ones I fixed the cable assy was damaged and wasn't allowing the handle to pick it up properly

If you have the handle removed and cable is ok it's just a case of pushing the handle into the holder and it will pick the cable up when you lift it. If the cable assy is damaged it doesn't hold the cable in correct place and hence doesn't lift up properly
