I posted some pictures of the car on Pistonheads last year, this was one of the responses i got
"I know this car and the previous/original owner, Malcolm, in Carpenders Park. I'm a good friend of his son, who was also an XR3 fan, he had one of the originals carb models back in 82. I half considered buying it myself, having had a few XR3s in the past. But nowhere to keep it and would have no time to use it. Plus it wasn't cheap, but it must be the best one in the country I should think.
A few other things about the car, Malcolm had this theory that using fast forward or reverse on the cassette would wear out the mechanism, so he only ever used Play! If he had a cassette that was only recorded on 1 side, he would play the blank side at normal speed for 45 mins listening to nothing!!! How's that for meticulous!
He always checked the weather forecast before taking it out. AFAIK, he did get caught in the rain once, when the BBC said it would be dry. He was beyond furious. I don't think he ever trusted the Beeb after that episode.
Glad to see it's gone to a good home and is still being cherished."
Just the type of person you'd want to buy a car off...lol
