Unfortunately it would not be that simple. The squish area of the head is not an exact shape (cylinder) all the way up to the valves - whereas the piston is perfectly cylindrical. So, a 1.5mm slice of the top of the piston wont be the same as removing a 1.5mm slice of the squish area of the head.

I guess in theory you could probably do some volume based calculations and make it work.....but imo, get some new pistons and be certain it will work. It would be a lot of work to have some disapointment at the end of it all.
