I've got a mk4 mondeo and it had a replacement duel mad fly wheel as I found it was goosed on the forecourt.
They replaced that then (as it always does) had issues after the warrenty ran out.
Lazy starting, refused to start, drained the battery.
RAC guy came out, all voltages were spot on. But there was a bad spark shooting out of the starter motor.
Lad off of here replaced the starter motor which was killed off by crap from the duel mass fly wheel and started on the button.
So in short yes, the fly wheel will eventually do in the starter motor.
My mate had a 2005 mondeo had had issues with the injectors as well. But the deisel engine is very complex so any model with have faults somewhere along the line.
