MK4 Heater System
Hi all
I have an R Reg MK4 which is my baby (don't laugh!). I've recently changed jobs and considered changing cars because I now have a 35 mile motorway commute as opposed to a 2.5 mile town commute, but decided to put a bit of money into the Fiesta instead whilst I complete my probation and decide whether to relocate.
It's had a full service, cam belt change, new front tyres and a new exhaust (the latter wasn't part of the original plan, just typical timing). Where I'm struggling is the heating system.
I know that there's a common fault with the valve. So replaced that. Well, I bought it and the garage put it in when they were doing the cam belt/coolant. It felt like it worked for a few minutes and then nothing, back to hot air. As you can imagine this isn't pleasant when you're spending an hour on the motorway. I did ask the garage a couple of years ago to tell me why the heater was always blowing warm - they said it was normal - so I can't just go "here fix this". It was a family member who suggested changing the heater valve.
What is weird is if I switch the fan on, it sounds like there's something stuck in the fan whirring around with it. Like a bit of paper brushing against casing or something. I'm probably going to go under the bonnet tomorrow with the help of my trusty Haynes manual.
Thing is I don't really know what I'm looking for so will just have to rummage for things that look "off". Does anybody have suggestions of what the issue might be?
TIA
