It is possible to do the Focus/Connect by just taking the extender shaft off the alternator, but the 10mm bolt can be easily dropped in the bracket

That is why I chose to take the bracket off. Also behind the bracket it is usually covered in gritty oily crap that I clean off as I don't want it going into the engine when you put the pin in.
A lot of people don't even bother timing the TDDI up and simply slip the belt on and off. Bad show I say.
