Run the earth to a good clean point on the chassis local to the pump. It will be better than a long small diameter cable running all the way to the battery. You can double it up with the cable if you want.

2.5mm^2 isnt huge by any means but should be adequate.

I like to oversize pump wiring. 4mm would be better, even if it is overkill.
