Dont forget you will be using a gasket.

If the engine is out the car it might pay to get some plastigauge and bolt it up to see if it pulls it down flat. Obviously its the heat of welding it that has warped it.

I doubt it will cost a huge amount to have it faced on a bench grinder, so that might be an option
