Apparently no need for recoding if you only replace the modulator and not the whole unit. The modulator can be seen here.
I feel like I have answered my own question buy the difficulty is when you attempt to separate the modulator from the ecu you could easily damage the ecu which would be very pricey to fix. I have read 2 post s of people doing this successfully but haven't read any of people using the ecu place.
Hence my question about risk / success rate.
