you may have fried the gem bit inside that controls it or you may have fried the complete c/l system unit
they are fairly fragile
the remote working isn't related as it seemingly takes a different route to power the trigger motor
other than getting a complete wiring diagram up to find out which wire powers which thing in the boot (there are about 8 wires on the plug) it's a bit tricky to figure out
see if you can get power to the boot switch first from the outside and work back from there
