The reason for that rule is to stop people making a big profit on their car that has been let in " cheaply " through the personal import rules.

im not 100% on the 5yr rule but i know on a personal import aswell as a SEVS you have to pay import tax and customs charges etc when it lands on Australian soil.

they seem to keep moving the goal posts
