You really can't beat slicks mate, a second hand set of slicks will out perform a set of 888's all day long as long as they aren't totally fucked.
You can get 1 x session used slicks for as cheap as £20 each.
Just remember you need to give them a couple of laps to warm up before you give them some stick.
I only ever use slicks on track days.
