very unusual for both to go as there is a connecting rod from handle to latch inside the door itself which could pop off but sounds more like the rear of handle latch has snapped or solonoid is playing up, it hard to diagnose via the net so I personally would try a coathanger to open the inner door release lever once unlocked through top of window or even snap the exterior handle clean off and use a screwdriver etc to depress the release lever inside the door once unlocked to gain access as the handles are cheap
