the threads can be helicoiled with the sump in place if you are VERY carefull and have a small hoover attatchment around the drill bit etc.
Otherwise i would support the engine from the top and lower the crossmember out of the way. probably have to undo the steering column, engine mounts, arb rear mounts, possibly top mounts, and possibly the power steering pipework.
