i was going to go down the bm route, but moon miles or older in your budget.
a nice a4 tdi would be a cracker, 3.0tdi would be my choice, shift well and fairly good on juice.
your budget is reasonable, get down to a car sales place and test out a few motors if unsure what to look at.
