As far as I know, they'd have a hard time fining you if you are a UK citizen unless they catch you in Ireland again. If you are Irish and they trace you though you are screwed.

Oh no I've known about them for years and have all the cars in the family on my automatic payment account, but I bought a car in the UK and in the 2/3 weeks I was using the car before my VRT appointment I went through it 3 times. I tried to pay in a petrol station and was told I couldnt pay on foreign plates.

They've now contacted the previous UK owner of the car and he emailed me to let me know about it last week.
