It's not a diseasal but I guess they're all much of a muchness underneath.
I've done 9k miles in it so far and it hasn't used more than 2mm of tread on the rears, the outside of the fronts were worn when I got it so had it in for complete alignment and so far the fronts haven't got any worse.

They are heavy old beast's so I guess the suspension components do take a battering.
I don't know if I could live with a diesel tbh but if your concerned about fuel usage it's going to be your best option. That being said my one is the 4.8 and I'm averaging nearly 19mpg round town and get a good 28-29 on a run so Its not likely to be much worse than the diesel.
