are you running a uprated breather kit? vented to atmosphere? if so this could be your smell, running it away from the kabin with a small breather filter on the pipe helps
BUT as you say that its had a recon turbo, did it smoke on boost before as it could have oil in the system still thats still burning off, or could be leaking oil on the turbo or exhaust which needs sorting

Hi mate i got new silicon hoses and -31 actuator its running so much better 1 st gear is perfect 2 gears perfect (i think ) but third forth and fifth the boost gauge dies off slowly is that normal should it hold boost all the way through the rev range my fuel pump is noisy gonna get one sorted soon could it be low fuel pressure . I do need to go and get it set up on rollers but the nearest one from me is gran canaria so gonna get booked up for feb need a radiator first as well gonna going for the alloy one any idea's on the boost dying cheers mate.
