The high pressure pump has a high output when cranking and in most modern diesels drops slightly when the car has started. We use computers at work and read the real time display in the engine ecu. Might sound daft but you havent kinked a pipe when you've been messing with the fuel lines? Its really hard to try and diagnose something like this without actually looking at it myself mate.
